Dane County is planning improvements along 4000 feet of Black Earth Creek to enhance public access and recreation, protect water quality, improve fish and wildlife habitat, and attenuate flooding.
The first phase of the stream restoration will be a timber stand improvement adjacent to the project site to remove invasive black locust clones and provide materials for the restoration project. Urben Forest Services LLC is contracted to remove approximately 700 trees and forestry mulch the entire understory.

This segment of trail will begin at a new parking lot/trailhead at the historic fishnet houses located in Fish Camp County Park and extend south along the eastern shores of Lake Kegonsa through Lake Kegonsa State Park to Williams Drive. Construction on the project is began October 2023 and is anticipated to be completed by fall 2024. Future phases will connect this segment of trail to the City of Stoughton and Village of McFarland. Urben Forest Services LLC is contractracted to clear the trail corridor of all trees/vegetation and remove any overhead hazards or dead trees along the trail corridor.
